SANFEED - Sustainable Animal Nutrition and Feeding

The 6th Annual Workshop of the Animal Science Doctoral Programme took place at ICBAS-UP on September 13. This program celebrates 10 years, and it is unique at national level as it includes a specialization in business environment (SANFEED). This edition was attended by two of the world's leading experts in animal nutrition: Sachi Kaushik, who did a state of the art regarding the current state of organic aquaculture, and Richard Dewhurst who focused on the importance of cow rumen microbiome-based biomarkers to improve the feed efficiency of these animals.

All students enrolled in the doctoral program had the opportunity to present their latest results to an audience of around 100 participants, in an event that, according to Jorge Dias, director of the SANFEED advisory committee "has reached a level similar to the best conferences in the world". Despite the high level of all presented works, Marina Machado (ICBAS-UP | CIIMAR | i3S | IBMC) was the winner in the best oral presentation category, while Lourenço Ramos-Pinto (ICBAS-UP | CIIMAR | SPAROS) and Luís Baião (ICBAS-UP | CIIMAR | SENSETEST) were the winners in the best pitch and poster category, respectively.

The 7th Annual Workshop of the Animal Science Doctoral Programme will take place at ICBAS, the 18th September 2020, where it is expected that this Doctoral Program in Animal Science will continue to grow in quality and excellence.
